Insulin Syringe Sizes Chart

Insulin syringe with needle comes in various sizes.

Select the smallest syringe size suitable for your insulin dose. Smaller syringes have more spaced-out and visible measuring lines on their barrels. When picking a syringe size, consider both the required insulin units and your ability to read the markings on the barrel.

For children, especially those needing tiny insulin doses, or individuals with vision difficulties, a 0.3ml or 0.5ml syringe is usually the most appropriate choice.

An adult requiring a larger insulin amount might find a 1ml syringe more suitable.

Insulin Syringe Size & Dosage Information

Horizon offers insulin syringes in different sizes to suit various diabetic needs and doses. The insulin syringe sizes relate to its capacity, while the insulin syringe needle sizes correspond to the needle's gauge and length.

Horizon insulin syringes come in three body sizes: 1cc, 5/10cc, and 3/10cc, indicating the syringe's capacity. The markings for U-100 insulin on each size are as follows: Size / Max Dosage / Increments 1cc / 100 units / 2 units 5cc / 50 units / 1 unit 3cc / 30 units / 1 unit.

Choose the insulin syringe size based on your highest injection dose. For instance, if you take 20 units, you can use a 0.5cc/50 unit or a 0.3cc/30 unit syringe insulin. For 60 units, go for a 1cc/100 unit insulin syringe. Generally, smaller syringe sizes have clearer markings.

For example, it's easier to read 35 units on a 5/10cc /50 unit syringe than on a 1cc/100 unit one. Similarly, a 15 unit dosage is clearer on a 3/10cc /30 unit syringe than on a 5/10cc /50 unit syringe.

Insulin Syringe Description

Insulin Syringe Description

An insulin syringe disposal is a specialized medical tool designed for the precise administration of insulin, a hormone crucial for regulating blood sugar levels in individuals with diabetes.

An insulin syringe consists of six parts: a needle, a barrel, a plunger, a piston, a protective cap and an end cap.

The needle is small and covered with a thin layer of silicone to make it gentle on the skin and reduce discomfort. Before use, the needle is protected by a cap.

The barrel is a slim, long chamber that holds the insulin. It has marked lines to measure the insulin units.

The plunger, a long and slender rod, fits snugly inside the barrel. It can easily move up and down to draw insulin into the barrel or push it out through the needle. The plunger's lower end has a rubber seal to prevent leaks. This rubber seal lines up with the marked lines on the barrel to measure the right insulin amount.

The  finger flange & thumb rest,  well-designed for a comfortable and secure grip, ensuring easy control.

The  protective cap,  keeps the needle clean and safe from damage.

The  end cap,  preserves syringe sterility during shipping.

The orange needle cap (sheath) helps you recognize the U-100 insulin syringe easily.

The red needle cap (sheath) is designed for simple identification of the U-40 insulin syringe.

● The cannula is made from stainless steel.

● The hub is crafted from polypropylene.

● It follows ISO color coding.

It has graduations marked for single units.

● You can get it in either PE or Blister pack packaging.

● It is free from DEHP and natural rubber latex materials during manufacturing.

● Each unit is sterile, meant for one-time use, and individually sealed.

● It contributes to diabetes care by supporting its management.

Insulin Syringe Manufacturing Process

FAQ

❓ 1. How to inject insulin with a syringe ? How to use an insulin syringe ?

Keep in mind that we are just providing general information, and it's important to follow your doctor's instructions or the guidelines provided with your specific insulin and syringe. If you're unsure or uncomfortable with the process, always consult a medical professional.

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to inject insulin using a syringe:

Materials you'll need:

Insulin vial or pen

Insulin syringe (U-100 syringe for U-100 insulin)

Alcohol swab

Cotton ball or gauze

Sharps disposal container

Steps:

Wash Your Hands: Start by washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water. This helps prevent infection.

Prepare Your Supplies: Gather all the necessary supplies on a clean, flat surface. Make sure the insulin vial is at room temperature, as cold insulin can be uncomfortable to inject.

Check the Insulin: Examine the insulin in the vial. If it looks cloudy or has particles, gently roll the vial between your palms to mix it. Do not shake the vial vigorously, as this can cause bubbles.

Clean the Injection Site: Choose an injection site (common areas include the abdomen, thighs, and upper arms). Clean the chosen area with an alcohol swab and let it dry. This helps prevent infections.

Draw Up the Insulin:

Remove the cap from the insulin vial and wipe the rubber stopper with an alcohol swab.

Remove the cap from the syringe needle and draw air into the syringe equal to your insulin dose.

Insert the needle into the rubber stopper of the insulin vial.

Inject the air into the vial and then turn it upside down.

Slowly draw up the correct dose of insulin into the syringe, making sure the tip of the needle is submerged in the insulin.

Remove Air Bubbles: Gently tap the syringe to bring any air bubbles to the top. Slowly push the plunger to expel the air bubbles back into the vial. Then, draw up a little extra insulin to ensure you have the correct dose.

How to get air bubbles out of insulin syringe ?

Tap: Hold the syringe with the needle pointing up. Gently tap the side of the syringe to make any air bubbles rise to the top.
Push Air Out: Slowly push the plunger upward to push out any air bubbles that have risen to the top. Keep doing this until you see a tiny droplet of insulin at the tip of the needle.
Pull Insulin: Once the air bubbles are gone, gently pull back the plunger to draw in a little extra insulin. This makes sure you have the correct dose and not just air in the syringe.
Check Again: Hold the syringe with the needle pointing up and tap it again. This helps any remaining air bubbles rise to the top. If you see more bubbles, gently push the plunger to get rid of them.
Ready to Inject: Once you're sure there are no air bubbles and you have the right dose of insulin, you're ready to inject. Remember to follow your healthcare provider's instructions for injecting.

It's important to get rid of air bubble in insulin syringe because injecting air instead of insulin can affect the accuracy of your dose. If you're ever unsure, ask your healthcare provider or a nurse to show you how to do this correctly.

Inject the Insulin:

Pinch a fold of skin at the cleaned injection site.

Hold the syringe like a pencil or a dart, and insert the needle into the pinched skin at a 90-degree angle (or the angle recommended by your healthcare provider).

Inject the insulin slowly and steadily by pushing the plunger all the way down.

Remove the Needle: After the insulin is injected, count to 5 or 10 before pulling out the needle to ensure the insulin is properly absorbed.

Apply Pressure and Dispose:

Use a cotton ball or gauze to apply gentle pressure to the injection site.

Carefully dispose of the used syringe in a sharps container. Do not recap the needle.

Record the Injection: Keep a record of the injection, including the date, time, dose, and injection site. This helps you track your insulin regimen.

Remember, if you're new to injecting insulin or have any concerns, it's best to consult with your healthcare provider or a diabetes educator for personalized guidance and support.

❓ 2. How many times we can use insulin syringe ?

Insulin syringes are generally designed for single-use only. This means you should use a new, sterile syringe for each insulin injection. Reusing syringes can increase the risk of contamination, infection, and inaccurate dosing. After using a syringe, it should be safely disposed of in a designated sharps container to prevent accidental needle sticks and protect others.

❓ 3. u 40 insulin syringe vs u 100

U-40 Insulin Syringe:

A U-40 insulin syringe is designed to measure and deliver insulin that has a concentration of 40 units of insulin per 1 milliliter (ml) of liquid.

This syringe is used for insulin preparations that are less concentrated.

The insulin syringe markings on the syringe barrel are adjusted to accurately measure doses of U-40 insulin.

U-100 Insulin Syringe:

A U-100 insulin syringe is used for insulin that has a concentration of 100 units of insulin per 1 milliliter (ml) of liquid.

U-100 insulin is more concentrated than U-40 insulin.

The insulin syringe markings on the syringe barrel are designed to measure doses of U-100 insulin.

Key Difference:

The main difference between U-40 and U-100 insulin syringes is the concentration of insulin they are designed for. U-40 syringes are for less concentrated insulin, while U-100 syringes are for more concentrated insulin.

It's very important to use the correct syringe for the type of insulin you are prescribed. Using the wrong syringe can lead to incorrect dosing, which can affect your blood sugar control. Always follow your healthcare provider's instructions and the labeling on your insulin and syringes to ensure you're using the right ones. If you're unsure, consult your doctor or pharmacist for guidance.
