Introduction

Disposable syringes are essential medical tools used for the safe and precise administration of medications and fluids. This step-by-step guide explains how to use a disposable syringe correctly, ensuring proper dosing and minimizing the risk of contamination.

Disposable syringe is available in two types: 2-piece technology (without stopper) and 3-piece technology (with stopper). Some come with an attached needle, while others do not. They have a clear barrel with clear graduations, making it easy to measure the contents accurately. The syringe disposable comes with different types of tips: luer lock, concentric luer slip, and eccentric luer slip, and can be used with either a regular needle or a safety needle. Catheter tip syringes are used for flushing catheters, gastrostomy tubes, and other medical devices.

These syringes do not have a stopper. They are commonly used for various medical purposes.

3 parts of syringe

3-parts syringe:

These syringes come with a stopper. They are also widely used in medical settings.

What are the parts of disposable syringe ?  Disposable syringe parts are listed as following.

Disposable Syringe Diagram

Barrel: The main body of the syringe, usually the disposable syringe material of barrel is PP (polypropylene),  with measurement markings along its side.

Plunger: A movable rod inside the barrel, often the disposable syringe material of plunger is PP (polypropylene), which fits snugly inside the barrel and can be pushed or pulled to control the flow of fluid.

Disposable syringe pistons: The piston is made of rubber or a similar material (usually latex or latex free disposable syringe material of piston), that forms a tight seal with the inner walls of the syringe barrel.

Needle: A thin, hollow metal tube attached to the front end of the syringe. This is the part that goes into the body to deliver or withdraw fluids.

Cap: A protective cover that fits over the needle to prevent accidental pricks before use.

Disposable syringe tips: Syringe tips disposable are the front end of the syringe, where the needle is attached. Some syringes have a Luer lock tip, which allows different types of needles to be securely attached, while others have a Luer slip tip or catheter tip.

Benefits of Disposable Syringes

Benefits of Luer Lock Syringe

Disposable luer lock syringe provides a secure attachment between the syringe and the needle or tube throughout the entire treatment administration process.

By ensuring a proper and secure connection between the needle and the patient, disposable syringe luer lock helps to prevent any potential issues with venous lines or arteriole lines during medical procedures.
The luer lock mechanism significantly reduces the chances of the needle getting lost inside the patient's body, providing an added layer of safety during medical treatments.
Using a luer lock disposable syringe helps prevent contamination as it allows for easy cleaning of the port and enables the use of fresh, new syringes for each patient. This reduces the risk of cross-contamination between patients.
The luer lock ensures a tight and reliable fit between the connectors and the needles, which is crucial for maintaining a consistent and accurate flow of medication or fluids during medical procedures.

Benefits of Luer Slip Syringe

Easy to use: Simple design for easy handling.

Cost-effective: Affordable compared to Luer Lock syringes.
Quick connections: Fast and convenient attachment of needles or tubing.
Suitable for low-volume applications: Ideal for procedures requiring frequent changes.
Widely available: Readily accessible in various sizes.
Reduced risk of cross-contamination: Minimizes potential for residue buildup.
Smooth fluid delivery: Ensures precise and consistent administration.
Low dead space: Minimizes drug wastage, accurate dosing.
Familiar to healthcare professionals: Commonly used and familiar tool.
Disposable options: Available as single-use for infection prevention.

Disposable syringe sterilization

There are different methods, disposable syringe can be sterilized by :

Ethylene Oxide (ETO) Sterilization: Syringes are exposed to ethylene oxide gas, which penetrates the packaging and kills bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms. After sterilization, the gas is removed, leaving the syringes safe for use.

As one of the disposable syringe factories, we use Ethylene Oxide (ETO) Sterilization.

Gamma Radiation: Syringes are exposed to gamma radiation, which destroys the DNA of microorganisms, rendering them unable to reproduce and cause infections.
Steam Sterilization: This method, also known as autoclaving, involves exposing the syringes to high-pressure steam at a specific temperature and time. The steam kills microorganisms and spores, ensuring sterilization.

How to use disposable syringe

How to use disposable syringe-1

Wash Hands: Before handling the syringe, make sure to wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water to maintain hygiene.

Inspect the Syringe: Check the packaging for any damage or signs of tampering. If the packaging is intact, the syringe should be sterile and safe to use.

Remove Cap: Take off the protective cap from the needle by pulling it straight off. Be careful not to touch the needle to avoid accidental pricks.

How to use disposable syringe-2

Draw Medication (if required): If you need to draw medication from a vial or ampoule, follow these steps:

a. Pull back the plunger to the desired volume on the barrel. This creates a vacuum inside the syringe.

b. Insert the needle into the vial or ampoule's rubber stopper.

c. Push the plunger down slowly to draw the medication into the syringe. Make sure you have the correct dosage.

Expel Air Bubbles: If there are air bubbles in the syringe, gently tap the barrel to move them to the top. Then, slowly push the plunger until a tiny drop of liquid appears at the needle tip, removing any air trapped inside.

How to use disposable syringe-3

Choose Injection Site: If you're administering an injection, choose the appropriate injection site as instructed by a healthcare professional.

Clean the Injection Site (if required): If needed, clean the injection site with an alcohol swab and let it dry before proceeding.

Administer the Injection: Hold the syringe like a pen with one hand and use the other hand to stabilize the skin around the injection site. Insert the needle smoothly and at the correct angle (usually 90 degrees for intramuscular injections and 45 degrees for subcutaneous injections). Slowly push the plunger to deliver the medication.

Withdraw the Needle: After the injection, withdraw the needle carefully and immediately dispose of the used syringe in a proper medical waste container. Never recap the needle.

Wash Hands Again: Finally, wash your hands once more to ensure proper hygiene.

Remember, if you're not comfortable or familiar with using a disposable syringe, always seek assistance from a trained healthcare professional. Improper use of syringes can be hazardous and cause injury or infections.
